Penguins & Predators vs. Reagan

Occasionally in Joyful Sounds, we will have storytime.  Not just any old storytime though…  this is “Three Words” storytime.  We go around in a circle and each person gets to add three words to the story.  No more, no less.  It teaches the kids to work together, to take what they are given and learn to adapt it as needed, and not to take life or plans too seriously.  It also makes for some very interesting stories!  Typically the girls and boys segregate themselves on different sides of the circle, so the storyline switches quite regularly back and forth between Rainbow Happiness and Total Destruction by Roving Bands of Anti-Galactic Mercenaries.  I’m sure you can imagine.

The last story we did was so humorous in how it played out that I just had to share.  A little background…  The boys were very intent on having predators rule the earth, while the girls were focused on simply making sure that the boys failed in their efforts. After several defeats and quite inventive comebacks, the boys decided to do away with the root of the problem – the mastermind of the girl-powered scheme, which was Reagan.  Enjoy this story, and see if you can tell which parts were created by boys and which by girls.

Penguins & Predators vs. Reagan

Once upon a snow storm, there were predators who started a big colorful rainbow fight against the humans.  And they died.  But the penguins were coming back to eat marshmallows and bring the predators back to life with gorillas and bazookas.  Then they all died.  That made the penguins angry!  Penguins wear big mustaches.  And the predators had Mario and Luigi with them.  And they died.  Then girl penguins went shopping at the predator store.  The predators bought an invincibility potion.  They blew up.  Which made them die.  And the penguins destroyed Reagan with big bazookas.

The End.

Life in a cozy church

I think one of my favorite things about being part of a smaller church is the excitement everyone feels over the arrival of a new baby.  As a close church family, sometimes it feels like we are all getting a new baby to raise and love together.  Of course, we won’t change nearly as many diapers or give as many hugs as the parents themselves, but we will be able to share in lifting up those young lives with encouragement, love and guidance.  What a privilege!  EPC has several expecting mothers right now, and the countdown is on until that blessed time when we can share in the joy of seeing a new little face.

I am celebrating these new births as I often celebrate anything else – with PAINT!  We felt like it was time for a nursery make-over.  I’ll have to get some shots of the finished product next time I am at church (or better yet, stop by and see it for yourself!), but here is some evidence of our labor of love (and excited anticipation ;) .  As for our expecting mothers, I will be keeping you in prayer as you near YOUR time of labor and love!

25 Years of God’s Faithfulness

In just a few days, EPC will be celebrating her 25th year anniversary as a church.  This amazes me!  Some churches are hundreds of years old, and I am humbled to think of those places, where people just like me would have stood and worshiped our Lord together as a family of believers.  But when I think of “young” churches like ours, I feel so overwhelmed to actually know and speak with many of the charter members who stood out in faith and moved forward on God’s command, working hard and bearing the wonderful fruit that is now called EPC Marshall.

The power of God moved so strongly in those days, when God gave those “pioneers” a vision and filled them with the energy, faith and motivation to see it through.  That power is still present today at EPC, moving us forward, equipping us to do His work, and that is a beautiful proof of the Lord’s grace and love for his people.  He never leaves us!

I am excited about the things that are happening in our church.  I can’t wait for this weekend, when we can join together to celebrate all stages of this church’s life, from it’s conception to it’s present day, and stand in wonder at the road we’ve all been gathered on together.  It’s a journey, and we say goodbye to some friends along the way, and welcome new brothers and sisters as well.  One may lay down their plow, and another may come along behind to pick it up again.  And each soul that toils leaves his unique mark upon the soil like a beautiful monument to God’s Ultimate Design.  Life is like that.  And life is good.

Fun at the Wiley’s

Deanna Wall was so wonderful to plan a swimming day for the EPC kids this morning – a last hurrah before the official start of school.  What a great morning we had!  The kids swam, played in the kayaks and ate yummy watermelon and popcycles.  :D

Many blessings to all of you as you start your school year.  May the Lord be with you, keep your hearts safe and secure, and strengthen you in Him through all experiences that you have this year.  My prayers are with you, kids AND parents!

Tonight was our EPC Fabulous Friday VBS After-Party.  And boy oh boy, do our church members and friends know how to cut loose and have fun!  Ben did some great VBS review, we had a fantastically WET time outside, and then we stuffed ourselves full of ice cream sundaes with all the fixins!
